The Legacy of Hajj Mohammed M. Adhban

Early Life and Education

Haj Adhban was born on August 15, 1935, in Harib, Marib, Yemen. A visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, he later became the founder of Adhban Group and one of the country’s leading contributors to economic and social development.

After completing his early education, he began his career in the 1950s with a small money exchange business in his hometown. Seeking broader opportunities, he moved to Aden in 1953, where he expanded into the import of electrical and agricultural equipment.

In early 1969, following nationalization in Aden, he relocated to Sana’a and laid the foundation of Adhban Group, growing from local commerce to national influence and international reach.

Business Ventures and Growth

During challenging times, he forged partnerships across Japan and Europe, opening trade routes that brought vehicles, trucks, and agricultural machinery into Yemen.

After relocating to Sana’a in 1969, the Group grew rapidly. In the 1970s it expanded in automobiles and heavy machinery; in the 1980s it diversified into industry, agriculture, real estate, tourism, insurance, oil, and food imports.

Under his leadership the Group became a leading automotive enterprise, creating jobs and setting benchmarks for quality, transparency, and ethics.

Social Contributions and Leadership

He actively advanced healthcare and community welfare, supporting initiatives for low-income families nationwide. Roles included:

• Member, Permanent Committee of the People General Conference (PGC)
• Chairman, Al-Omm Specialized Hospital (Sana’a)
• Chairman, Yemeni-Japanese Friendship Association
• Chairman, Tuberculosis Eradication Center
